When I reflect on the various fridges we’ve owned it’s become apparent that they are not particularly robust, and neither are they very reliable.
My parent’s fridge lasted most of my childhood, it was large, shapely and reliable, sure there was a little rust, but it definitely felt very solid, and the door had a lever to open it and close it. Sure it rattled and hummed, but it also served our family endlessly.
So what’s changed?
I’m not sure but a friend explained to me that nowadays frozen products do not last as long as they once did in the freezer because modern fridges/freezers have a heating / defrosting cycle that it routinely goes through.
When you open the door on modern fridges, you hear the fan switch on or off to deter condensation.
I’m sure there are many solutions to modern refrigeration challenges, and we don’t all have the appetite to challenge the status quo in refrigeration, however, I have heard that some people use a chest freezer for the fridge and they set the freezer to switch on and off periodically, and apparently, this works well to reduce cost and keep products pool and some in challenging circumstances.
My own very simple approach to simplifying my fridge woes has been to have a separate fridge and freezer. It not only provides additional space but halves the problem when one device goes faulty.
Our previous fridge was a twin door fridge freezer, which looked huge, and impressive, but after using it for a while I realise that there is not very much space in the device.
So for $150 I picked up a matching fridge and freezer, secondhand, and quite honestly from where I’m standing it looks to me like a much better solution.

Maintaining a cost-effective pool filter is a little tricky, at least for me it has been,
Ended up purchasing a Davey pump, which cost over $400 dollars, (I needed it in a hurry), the problem here is that cruel businesses like Davey maintain two ranges of products, one is a cheap entry-level solution, probably made in China and the better YELLO range of product which seems to be their best and most expensive product which many users probably can’t afford.
This is the next item on my "Swimming Pool" wish list. The pool gathers a fair amount of pollen, leaves and insects, most of which float on the surface for a day of so before sinking to the bottom where they are collected by the Barracuda Captura Plus pool robot, (electric vacuum cleaner).
I am very impressed with my robot pool cleaner which I’ve had for a month or so and which does a great job cleaning the pool. I’ve had a number of different pool filters and pool cleaners, but but this is by far the best.
It is electric, and has a management Consul which sits on the side of the pool and from which I can issue commands for example you can started to climb the walls or focus on the pool floor.
The Pool Robot will run for a couple of hours before it pauses an switches itself off which I find slightly annoying because I have a large pool and I would prefer it to just keep cleaning for a much longer duration.

Our home has a lot of dust, in plain speak it’s a dusty home and I plan to free it from dust. It makes me uncomfortable when I think that we have lived with dust in this home since 2003, so for the past 18 years we have eexperiancee dust. It’s time to identify where the dust is coming from, and then remove and eliminate these sources of dust in our home.
There is a gap in the eve facia of roof near Catherines window which needs to closed, this will prevent air blowing into the roof and pushing through any gaps in the ceiling, so for example we have trap doors in the roof which do not seal very well, or we have recessed lights in the lounge and air might get is through the edges,
Another obvious source are the trapdoors into the roof,
As it turns out I have a tolerable dust allergy, and I know that when I sleep dust free places like hotels etc I clear up a little.
The greywater drains gather grim and eventually block up. Our drains have finally reached a point when they were unusable, and I needed to call someone in to pressure clean them.
It’s always exciting when this sort of thing happens, I called friend who advised me to call a drain specialist based in Maroochydore who because he was busy and the rains were coming advised me to call someone who had similar specials equipment and was based in Beerwah, He advised me to call Clint.
There are always so many projects and things which either need doing or ought to be done at Havilah House. It’s a handy mans dream home!
Do something is my advice to you. It doesn’t need to big or ambitious, grand or complicated.
It need only be a step in the right direction and you’re going get there if you repeat that simple action again and again, you will get there.
“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.” ― Theodore Roosevelt
I find myself caught up with lethargy or conflict about where start when I look around and see all I need to get done at Havilah House.
At other times I delay by telling myself it needs to be perfect so lets wait till I get a chance to do it right! Year right, such a lie, one of the worst lies, because I’m not only fooling myself, but I’m putting off any advantage I’d other wise gain by taking some action.
So my advice to you and I my friend, is to do something today.
Almost anything will be better than doing nothing at all.
Do something, and do it now!
I receive frequent requests to purchase Havilah House, and I can see why. Havilah House is comfortably situated on 2 acres of land. It’s central to town and there are some highly developed estates and properties close by. On paper Haviliah House looks like an easy block to develop. The current regulations allow the blocks in this region to be subdivided in 600 sq/m blocks, and if I could use all 7700 sq/m this would allow me to have at least six new blocks and one large block. I would not be at all surprised if a development project might also include some 450 sq/m blocks of land.
I have long had and still have this notion that this land and home will be worth 1 million dollars and of course that is true most homes now days if you leave them long enough they may eventually be worth a million dollars due to inflation and other increases. However that is the wonderful thing about a promise, God exceeds your expectation since he his able to do abundantly more that we can think of or imagine. So a million dollars means at the very least the equivalent of a million at the time of the promise and not a million at the time of fulfilment, which otherwise may only be the equivalent of a much smaller amount at the time of the promise. This is the wonderful thing about God, he exceeds expectations because his Glory fills the heavens.
God gave me this land for a reason, irrespective if it was the wrong purchase. since I have often wondered, thought and sometimes believe that God had something better planned for me and instead I insisted and setteled on this bock. I know that God is my Father and greater, more excellent and more powerful than any mistake I could ever have made by choosing this block. I, therefore, have every confidence that God can make good, fix up, and build on any mistakes I may have made.
All things work out for the good of those who love the Lord. So when I say I have asked God for at least a Million, I can be confident he may give me much more than a million.
